My Favourite Poem

A free bird leaps on the back
Of the wind and floats downstream
Till the current ends and dips his wing
In the orange suns rays
And dares to claim the sky.

But a BIRD that stalks down his narrow cage
Can seldom see through his bars of rage
His wings are clipped and his feet are tied
So he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings with a fearful trill
Of things unknown but longed for still
And his tune is heard on the distant hill for
The caged bird sings of freedom.

The free bird thinks of another breeze
And the trade winds soft through
The sighing trees
And the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright
Lawn and he names the sky his own.

But a caged BIRD stands on the grave of dreams
His shadow shouts on a nightmare scream
His wings are clipped and his feet are tied
So he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings with
A fearful trill of things unknown
But longed for still and his
Tune is heard on the distant hill
For the caged bird sings of freedom.

Once I saw this poem, I am very curious of why a ‘Caged bird’ can sing. Is it very happy to live in the cage? What does it sings for? Hence, I pick this poem as my favourite poem, then I started reading the poem to understand the meaning and reason of a ‘Caged bird’ sings. Then, I know that the ‘Caged bird’ sings of freedom. Besides that, the ‘Caged bird’ sings with a fearful trill. Why? What does is scare of? I also look forward to it why the poet wrote it like this. The poet also wrote the first three paragraphs as the first story, and the last three paragraphs as the second paragraph.

Is progress necesarily beneficial for the society?

If it is me I think that it can be agree or disagree. But most of it is agree, so today I discuss Progress is necessarily beneficial for society. I take this novel, Village by the Sea’s example to prove.

First of all is Biju’s boat which is beneficial for everyone. He gives everyone chances to have a job. This not only benefit to the villagers, but also to the village. The villagers also can use their some part of their earning to build better houses which also make the village look better.

The news of the factory is going to build in the village is also good. The villagers can start their own grocer or market to sell to the workers, the villagers may have more customers than before and they can earn more.

Finally, this is the important one, if there was nobody is going to send Hari’s mother to see a doctor, then his mother will be very ill and eventually she will die. If there are no hospitals, it is also going to happen the same thing. It is very Lucky that Aligbah has a hospital.

There are many changes of the villagers in the book, they started a better life and having a good job with enough income to support the family.

My Favourite Part of Village by the Sea

At first, I think this book, Village by the Sea is a boring novel. Before I finish reading the novel, I told my friend that there will be a sad ending the father will still is a drunken man, the mother was sick, Hari and Lila will live in poverty and hunger. However, my friend told me to finish reading the book before saying is a sad ending. Then, I finish reading the book and realize that I was wrong, it is a happy ending.

My favourite part of the story is the ending, which it is a happy ending. I thought that Hari’s mother is ill and cannot be cure, but in the end the illness was cure. Hari also can ern and support the family, all the school fee for Bela and Kamal can be paid. Lila and Hari could be the owners of poultry farm. Hari also can repair watch for others to earn. Hari all the time would not forgive his father, but in the end, he forgave him. They also live happily ever after, without poverty and hunger as before.

Secondly, the other of my favourite part of the story is the adventure of Hari in Bombay.
[Next Post will elaborate more on it]

Favourite Character in Village by the Sea

Every book we read, sometimes we will have our favourite characters. It can be say all the time. For me, in this book, Village by the Sea, I have some favourite character, the benefactors and the protagonist. Example, Mr. Panwallah, Jagu, the de Silva, Hari, etc. , but today I just want to discuss my most favourite character, and it is Hari.

Hari: He is the protagonist. Even though he lives in poverty and hunger, he could survive, could change his family , from a dysfunctional family ,into a better family. There is something we could learn from him, now I will discuss perseverance and adaptation to our living condition. Although, he lived in poverty and hunger, he did not complain others, but he work as hard as he could to live on, to survive. He only a little for his meal, and do not even can afford a proper meal, but he still can adapt to it. When Hari lives in Bombay, although the city was flood in monsoon, the place is so new to him, he can adapt to it. Look at us, we are so fortunate that we live comfortably and eat delicious food. If we live in Hari’s life, can we survive in that condition? Think about it. The second thing we could learn from him is to live and learn. When he is in Bombay, he learn new things, and he is so excited when started learning. He is so happy when he learned a new thing. Therefore; we must continue learning.

What is your favourite character in this book, Village by the Sea? Please give a comment.

I rather be the city rat than the country rat.

City rat or a country is better? Of course, a country rat is better because being a city rat was so stressed and I was a city rat. After that, I pondered and carefully analyzed the advantages and the disadvantages of a city rat and a country rat.

City rat: Nowadays, city’s technology is more advance, and it can be say it is the most advanced. We have a lot of entertainment, communication devices, transportations, better jobs. We can travel from a place to another easily using the public or private transportation such as trains, buses, cars, airplanes, etc. We have entertainments too, such as music, songs, games, movies. We can relax and release our stress. In the city, We have jobs, better jobs with higher salary. However, there are limited jobs. Besides that, in a city, it is very competitive. Therefore, our parents work very hard and we also need to be hardworking. This cause us to be very stress, pressure and we have only a little time to spend with our family.

Country rat: Country rat’s life is very relaxed and has a lot of free time. Our work is not a burden which pressures us. Hence, we always live healthily. On the other hand, we eat foods which are planted by ourselves, and it was not sprayed by insecticide. The air was not polluted by smokes. However, technology is not so advanced. We travel on foot and by bicycle, we make our games to entertain ourselves, we sing our songs and not enjoy the songs which sang by the radio. Even though the technology is not so advance, but we are a lot of leisure time to spend with our family.

My conclusion: For me, I prefer both. I wanted the advance technology in the city, but I do not want pressure in my job. I want sufficient leisure time to spend with my family.

After reading, what about you? You want to be a city rate or a country rat? Please give a comment.
